Spelt as it sounds “in-kawr-puh-reyt”, meaning “incorporate”, emphasizes the assimilation of meaning that coexists and are hidden in language forms. Developing the idea of unity into one body, Noor channels, through this new series of works, the mythology of the notion of appropriation and incorporates this concept to the aesthetic of embroidery and painting. The series of embroideries on linen is a tribute to the fine needlework of Medieval England named nowadays Opus Anglicanum and explores an abstract conceptual language represented by the pattern of the stripes. The series of framed offset print films entitled Fountain Solution references the process of keeping the non-printed area ink free. This technique invented in 1875 recalls the time of colonial infrastructure and industrial manufacturing. Used continuously in Noor’s previous collage work, here the prints are presented in larger format, integrating the medium of spray paint on wood. Through these new bodies of work, Noor unites early techniques of image-making in the exploration of new languages and continues to address the notions of combination and assemblage, which are at the root of his practice, as a way to reflect between the past and the present.
